This emergency sleeping bag, thermal bivvy sack is much more than inexpensive standard emergency blankets. The material of this emergency bivvy is more like Tyvek wristbands which are made of nylon or polyethylene. This is both lightweight and funcitonal. The material difficult to puncture stretch or tear/shred.There is much more manufacturing to make this emergency bivvy. There is an addtional honeycombed layer of reflective coating of shiny polyethylene or mylar bonded to the nylon. The bag is shaped as a tapered full length & width sleeping bag that has a drawstring cord to cinch around the top to protect the head. There is a partial 1/3 length of zipper to easily get in and out. But the only bad thing is the zipper pull is on the outside versus on the inside too. I have to stick my arm back out to zip up and unzip, which is much more of a pain to do when trying to stay warm and dry. A double pull zipper would be far more functional. There is also a separate carry bag made of the same material. What’s not mentioned at all in the product information is the at the tip of the carrying bag, there is an emergency whistle attached to the drawstring cord. This is helpful to get attention in an emergency. I got the orange color model and it’s bright and visible from far away distances. Flipping the bivvy inside out also reflects light and can be used to reflect the sun as a signaling device too. This emergency bivvy can be used in conjunction with a sleeping bag if temperatures fall below the rating of my sleeping bag. Or this can be used on its own when hiking or other inhospitable conditions and immediate shelter is needed. This emergency bivvy fully encloses me completely to keep my body temperature in and keep me dry. It’s much more difficult to stay fully covered from a rectangular sheet of an emergency blanket.
